What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization is an ART-based procedure to help couples produce their babies. It comprises a series of complex procedures whose success depends on diverse factors. With technological and medical advancements, the results are constantly improving. However, the couple must thoroughly understand how IVF works, and what factors determine its success rates.

What Does IVF Include?

In Vitro Fertilization includes a series of procedures as follows:

  • Ovarian stimulation
  • Egg retrieval
  • Sperms aspiration on the same day of egg retrieval
  • Fertilization
  • Incubation of embryo
  • Screening of healthy embryo
  • Embryo implantation

Each step is crucial and determines procedures success. IVF is necessary when the infertility issues obstruct conception, lead to repetitive miscarriages, or parents do not want to pass on a hereditary disease to their offspring. This ART-based technique acts as a bridge, helping the couple achieve their aspiration for a child.

IVF Package

The complete IVF process may include an IVF cycle and repetitive diagnostic tests, which may take a toll on your pockets. Therefore we have tailored a consolidated IVF package to eliminate extra treatment costs. The plan summary  includes:

    • Egg Harvesting
    • Embryo Transfer
    • Doctor/ Embryologist Consultations
    • Monitored Ultrasounds
    • Hormone
    • Other Incidentals
    • Complimentary Add-Ons
    • Embryo Freezing (2 months)

Multi-cycle IVF Package

Some cases of repetitive miscarriages or higher age may require multiple IVF cycles; each cycle is costly. Therefore, our experts recommend a multi-cycle IVF package to offer you the best results in an optimal budget.

  • All Stimulation Injections
  •  Consultations from Doctors Panel right from Stimulation to Pick-Up
  • Complete Ultrasound Investigations Required in IVF treatment
  • Hormonal Tests-During Ovarian Stimulation (E2 – 2 times; LH – 1 time; Progesterone – 1 time)
  • Egg Retrieval
  • ICSI
  • Embryo Freezing & Storage (till package lasts)
  • Blastocyst Culture
  • Donor Sperm or Donor Egg
  • Embryo Thawing and Transfer
  • Embryo Transfer
  • Day-Care Room Charges
  • Clinical Charges
  • OT Charges
  • OT Consumables

Parameters That Measures IVF Success Rates

Live Births Per Treatment Cycle

This figure includes live births percentage resulting from fresh embryo transfer per treatment cycle. However, the live birth of babies produced from frozen embryos transfers is not included in calculating the percentage.

Pregnancies Per Embryo Transfer

This figure includes a percentage of clinical pregnancies counts resulting from single embryo transfer, including the miscarriage cases.

Live Births Per Embryo Transfer

This percentage is calculated based on live births of one or multiple healthy babies resulting from one embryo transfer. In addition, twins, triplets, or multiple births are simultaneously counted as one birth.

Factors Affecting IVF Success Rates

The IVF success rates may differ in discrete cases, individual to individual. However, some factors that play a major role in determining IVF success rates are described as:

Age

IVF success rates decline with the increasing age of women. Ideally, the chances of success are highest in 24 years to 34 years of age of women. However, the results vary from individual to individual, and other detrimental factors also play a role in the procedure’s success.

Previous Pregnancy

Patients having IVF treatment after one pregnancy have higher chances of IVF success than the couple seeking IVF treatment for the first time.

Cause of Infertility

Infertility conditions such as fibroid tumors, uterine abnormalities, ovarian dysfunction in females and inadequate sperms count, or sperm motility issues in men are serious infertility issues that require IVF intervention for achieving pregnancy.

Quality of Egg and Embryo

Typically a woman produces only one egg per menstrual cycle. However, if the eggs’ quality is not good for fertilization, she is prescribed ovary stimulation medications for producing matured eggs, which is later retrieved and used for embryo production in the IVF cycle. Thus, the successful IVF treatment hugely depends on the quality of eggs for producing healthy embryos.

Sperm Quality

Sperm quality includes sperm motility and sperm count that plays a major role in zygote or embryo formation. Males having sperm quality issues are recommended ICSI, an ART-based technique in which an individual sperm is directly injected into an egg for accurate fertilizations.

Transfer of Multiple Embryos

Multiple embryo transfers into the uterus may increase the implantation rate. However, it also increases the chances of twins and triplets in pregnancies.

Donor Eggs

The couple may accept donor eggs for the IVF cycle to improve treatment outcomes. In addition, the IVF expert may recommend using donor eggs in IVF treatment when harvested eggs quality is not good for underlying reasons such as age, uterus condition, tube obstruction, etc.

Controlled Ovarian Stimulation

It is the primary step to begin IVF treatment. However, ovarian stimulation is case-dependent, and many women may manifest abnormal responses to ovarian stimulation. Hence, it is detrimental to administer a controlled ovarian stimulation protocol to achieve desired results and harvest eggs timely.

Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer is a critical stage requiring expertise and years of experience in handling IVF treatments. The embryo transfer is scheduled in synchronization with stimulation medications, preparing the uterus wall for conception, and any small issues in the transfer process, for example, incorrect timing, unexpected biological factors, or rough handling, can negatively impact the embryo implantation process.

Uterine Receptivity

The internal environment of the uterus is essential for an embryo’s healthy development. Some important factors for embryo retention and growth include the thickness of the uterine lining, immunological factors, and uterine shape.

Lifestyle

Both men and women undergoing IVF treatment must adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet, mindfulness, and modulated physical activity. Also, they must quit smoking, alcohol, and sedentary habits which may reduce the effectiveness of treatment and lower pregnancy chances.
