TESA Fertility Treatment in Mumbai

Overview

TESA, or Testicular Sperm Aspiration, is one of the latest sperm retrieval techniques. Typically, it is recommended to men suffering from Azoospermia, or low sperm count in their ejaculate. The method aims to retrieve sperms through injection and use it in Intracytoplasmic injections (ICSI) for producing viable embryos. Earlier than this, reconstructive surgery was the only method to seek results. Today, with TESA fertility treatment, men with azoospermia can also become biological fathers without undergoing major surgery.

Procedure Of TESA Fertility Treatment

The TESA treatment is done in the following steps

  •  Anesthesia is injected into the testis.
  • A fine needle is inserted into the testis and sperms are obtained through gentle suction with the syringe.
  • Then, the needle is rotated a few times until aspirate is seen in the needle tube. Finally, the needle is withdrawn slowly out of the testes.
  • The fluid obtained through the procedure is checked for healthy sperms under a microscope.

When Is TESA Treatment Recommended?

It is recommended in the following cases:

Azoospermia
It Is a condition in which a man’s ejaculate has no or very few sperms. TESA is an effective treatment for men suffering from obstructive or non-obstructive azoospermia.
Testicular failure
Due to chromosomal abnormalities, a man may experience testicular failure. This disorder reduces the testicle’s ability to produce and store enough sperm, eventually reducing the impact of sperms motility to swimming in a uterus after ejaculation. In such cases, PESA or TESA may be used for sperm collection from testicles for IVF.
Varicocele
It is a condition when benign testicular cysts cause blockages hindering smooth sperm flow from testicles and epididymis. TESA or PESA is effective in extracting sperm.

Is It Painful?

The treatment is done under anesthesia, so it is not a painful treatment. However, the person may feel little discomfort, pinprick, and swelling in the injection site for a week. After that, the doctor will prescribe medications to diminish the discomfort caused by the TESA treatment
